A drama and dance troupe has been shortlisted for an award.

Female entrepreneurs Lucy Williams and Karen Lauder who co-founded SPOTlight Performing Arts Academies were nominated for three categories in The EVAs (Enterprise Vision Awards) and have been shortlisted for the New Business section.

Karen said: “Lucy and I are absolutely over the moon that we have become finalists in the New Business category of the Eva Awards 2016. It has been a wonderful journey and the greatest reward is being able to have an impact teaching young people the confidence to believe they can achieve their dreams.”

Meanwhile, the group has triumphed in its first live stage performance on the largest stage in Europe.

Members of SPOTlight Performing Arts Academies performed in front of 3,000 people at the Opera House in the Blackpool Winter Gardens.

The Academies, at Wellfield High School, Leyland, and Parklands High School, Chorley, have been open for almost a year teaching dance, drama and singing to pupils aged five to 16 years, and specialising in training young performers for the stage and screen with a Casting Agency running alongside it.

Lucy added: “Our pupils are an absolute delight to teach and all worked really hard to bring the 8 minute Musical Theatre piece together – we’re proud of each and every one of them”.
