This was the dramatic scene in a Preston city centre street this morning following a break-in at a jewellers.

Police say officers were called to Hackler's Jewellers, in Lune Street, at around 8.05am after staff responded to an alarm and discovered the raid.

Sgt Kim Sturgess said 'an unknown quantity of jewellery' has been stolen, and said the raiders are believed to have forced their way into the business through the attic.

Lune Street was closed as officers, with the help of a fire service cherry picker, climbed onto the building's roof to inspect it.
