Man pointing gun out of window is arrested after tense stand-off with armed police in Chorley

Around 20 officers descended on a home in Hamilton Road at around 4.55pm after reports of a man pointing a gun at people from out of a window.
Armed officers surrounded the house - off Devonshire Road - where they ordered the man to put down his gun, come out and hand himself in.

Hide AdBut the man refused and a specialist negotiator was brought to the scene.
A number of roads were cordoned off whilst negotiations with the man continued for around three hours, before he finally agreed to hand himself in.
The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested as he left the house and was found in possession of a suspected air rifle, which has been seized.
He has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent and remains in custody this morning.

Hide AdLancashire Police said there are no reports of anyone being injured during the incident.
It had been suggested on social media that a 'hostage' had been held captive inside the home during the stand-off, but this has been dismissed by police.

A police spokesman said: "We responded to an incident in Hamilton Road, Chorley which came in at around 4.55pm.
"It was a concern for safety after a report that a weapon was being pointed out of a window.

The sentence for possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence can see those found guilty facing a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment.
