Leyland man arrested after teenager is raped in local park

A man has been arrested after a teenager was raped in a Leyland park in the early hours of the morning.

The 18-year-old suspect, from Leyland, was taken into custody after a teenage girl reported being raped in Strawberry Valley Park in Bent Lane at around 4am on Friday (July 22).

Officers taped off an area of the park whilst CSI carried out a forensic examination at the scene this morning.

The cordon has now been removed and the park reopened to the public.

Police said the local man, aged 18, has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The age of the victim has not been released at this stage, but police confirmed the young woman is in her teens.

A spokesman for the force said: “We were called at approximately 4am today (July 22) following a report of rape.

“It is early in our investigation and the victim is being supported by officers.

“An 18-year-old man is currently in custody.”
