Officers in wet suits were pictured entering the green, fern-infested water near Bridge 10 on the Lancaster Canal, over the entry to Ashton Basin, on Wednesday (July 20).
Lancashire Police said the officers were searching for missing man Daniel Binkowski who has not been seen for more than three weeks.

Yesterday (July 21), the force renewed its missing person’s appeal and released CCTV stills showing Daniel’s last known movements from Friday, July 1.
In the footage, he can be seen turning from Inkerman Street on to Aqueduct Street towards the area of the canal shortly before 9pm. He is then seen walking under the aqueduct and out of sight of the cameras.
A police spokesman said: "It is three weeks since Daniel was last seen and some new CCTV footage has come to light. This is the last sighting we have of Daniel and we are anxious to trace him.”
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has also helped with the search for Daniel. Earlier this week, crews were seen operating a drone as they searched the area around the canal.

Daniel was last seen wearing a black hoodie, grey trousers, blue flip flops and was carrying a small Gucci man bag.
He is described as 6ft with short dark hair and has a forearm tattoo on his left arm spanning from his wrist to his elbow and a scar on the side of his neck.
Police say Daniel also has links to Blackburn, Accrington and Manchester.
