Christopher Maunder, 57, was arrested in Preston last night after police appealed for help to catch him.

Maunder, formerly of Charles Street, Blackpool, was jailed in 2005 for violently stabbing a man to death in the resort.

He was released in 2009, only to be put back behind bars last year after he was caught with a knife in Preston city centre, where he threatened to kill a police officer.

Police said Maunder went on the run after he was released from prison just days ago.

They raised the alarm after he went missing from his address in Blackburn following his release on licence on July 2.

Police say he was arrested in Preston last night and has now been returned to jail.

Maunder spent four years in jail for the manslaughter of Michael Nelson-Lane in 2004.

He met his victim at the Mardi Gras bar, on Talbot Road, before going back to Mr Nelson-Lane’s flat on Warley Road, North Shore.

He was cleared by a jury of murder but found guilty of manslaughter after he stabbed his victim to death.

He was originally jailed for 10 years, only to have his sentence cut on appeal.
