Caribbean Carnival to be calypso weekend
Preston's most colourful outdoor event will be doubling in size this year to become the Caribbean Carnival weekend.

In addition to the popular calypso procession and fun day on Sunday June 10, organisers are planning a music festival on the Saturday in Moor Park.
The 1 Park 10 Sounds Festival will feature a host of well-known sound system performers including King Tubbys, V Rocket, Gladdy Wax, Luv Injection and Sisters of Reggae.
“We are eager to create a carnival weekend experience in Preston as well as taking some income that will support us throughout the year,” said Tracey Harris, the chair of the Carnival committee.
“Many carnivals, including ours in Preston, have had to tighten their belts following withdrawal of local authority funding. But we have to build for the future and not just one off annual events. We hope this fund-raiser will allow us to develop sustainability and ultimately create local jobs.”

The organisers, who launched a “Back On De Road” campaign last year after the spectacular street procession returned following a year off the road, say they are keen to continue the success built up in 2017. And the idea of a two-day carnival was born out of that.
The 1 Park 10 Sounds Festival will be ticket-only event. Tickets are available on Skiddle.com. On the Sunday the procession will begin from Moor Park at noon, with the procession going down Deepdale Road and back up Garstang Road. On the park there will be live performances from July Julay, Lutennants, Scrappy and Laid Blak.
