Mellor nursery school set to reopen after flood damage forced seven-month closure

Families have had to make the journey to Preston every day for seven months while refurbishiment took place.

For the team at Rosy Apple Childcare, the past seven months have been a journey of resilience, teamwork, and community spirit.

The company operates across four settings, including its nursery in Ramsgreave, Mellor. On the morning of December 8, staff arrived ready for a new week only to discover that the first floor of the nursery had suffered significant flooding. The damage was extensive and required a full renovation.

Despite the unexpected setback, staff worked closely with families to ensure continuity of care.

Children from the Ramsgreave nursery were welcomed into two of the group’s Preston settings, (little achievers Urban Forest School Nursery and Little Achievers day nursery) allowing families to retain their places while renovation work got underway.

Since then, contractors and staff have worked tirelessly to restore the nursery. And now, after a long seven months, the end is finally in sight. Final works are due to be completed this week, and staff from across the company will be working throughout the weekend to prepare the nursery for its reopening on Monday, June 15.

A spokesman for Rosy Apple said: “The reopening marks an exciting milestone for parents, carers, children and the wider community. While it has been a challenging period for everyone involved, the wait is finally over.

“Families, staff and children are eagerly looking forward to returning to the beautifully refurbished nursery and beginning the next chapter together.

“Rosy Apple Childcare would like to thank all families, staff, contractors and the local community for their patience, support and understanding throughout the restoration project.”
