While Preston has changed beyond recognition in places, it’s only when you look back at old photos that it really hits home.
The 1980s might not feel that long ago, but the city has been transformed over the past four decades.
These images capture a time when Preston was busy and evolving, with familiar streets, shops and buildings, some of which have since disappeared.
Some spots, though, are still standing and look remarkably similar today.
Take a look back and see how much you remember.

9. The cenotaph
The cenotaph which stands proudly next to the Flag Market in the city centre looks largely the same, but the area around it has seen many changes over the years. Here in 1985 it was spruced up with new steps, plus new lampposts and bins

10. Cottam Hall Brickworks
This was the scene of Cottam Hall Brickworks in Ingol, around 1986. The area is now the site of a housing estate, still in the process of being built. What lovely views they will have of the canal which sits proud at the front of the picture

11. Fishergate and Glovers Court
This picture shows off some of the stunning architecture which can still be found on the streets of Preston. It is the corner of Fishergate and Glovers Court, taken in 1985. Of course the shop, Stones, has long gone, evidenced by the 'closing down' sale seen in the photo Photograph by Beth Hayes and kindly provided by Paul Swarbrick and Gillian Lawson of the Preston Historical Society

12. London Road
If you glanced out of the window of this bus today you would be hard pressed to recognise the area at all. This is an inbound Ribble bus passing the Greyhound Hotel along London Road in 1985
