While Preston has changed beyond recognition in places, it’s only when you look back at old photos that it really hits home.
The 1980s might not feel that long ago, but the city has been transformed over the past four decades.
These images capture a time when Preston was busy and evolving, with familiar streets, shops and buildings, some of which have since disappeared.
Some spots, though, are still standing and look remarkably similar today.
Take a look back and see how much you remember.

5. Lancaster Road
Although the Co-op hasn't disappeared from the streets completely, this grand one on Lancaster Road in the city centre closed in January 1988. It is pictured here in 1987. The building, named Lancastria House is a stunning art-deco structure which will see some changes sweeping in with the development of the old indoor markets

6. Friargate
This view of Friargate, taken in 1986, will seem very peculiar to many people. With two-way traffic it doesn't look anything like this now, being largely pedestrianised and some of the shops, like C&A, having disappeared from the high street. The photo was sent in by reader Peter Reed Photo: Peter Reed

8. Friargate
Now home to a number of different shops, including Top Shop, this was the scene on Friargate in 1985 - the home of the Lancashire Evening Post and Farmers Guardian newspapers
