While Preston has changed beyond recognition in places, it’s only when you look back at old photos that it really hits home.
The 1980s might not feel that long ago, but the city has been transformed over the past four decades.
These images capture a time when Preston was busy and evolving, with familiar streets, shops and buildings, some of which have since disappeared.
Some spots, though, are still standing and look remarkably similar today.
Take a look back and see how much you remember.

13. Ashton
This picture shows the junction of Waterloo Road and Tulketh Brow, in Ashton, Preston in 1984. Located due west of Maudland Viaduct is this bridge that carries the Fylde coast railway line over Waterloo Road. Known for generations as 'the danger bridge'. The word 'Danger' was once painted in bold yellow letters on both sides of the bridge to warn traffic of the height restriction. Over the years several buses and lorries came to grief attempting to pass below the structure. The bridge has since been re-built easing the overhead restriction from 11' 9'' to 14' 3'' and now features a roundabout on Tulketh Brow to help with the traffic passing to and from the city centre. 14. Mounted Constabulary Stables
Anyone remember when the Mounted Constabulary Stables were located in Church Street, Preston? This picture shows the entrance to the stables in 1983. Photograph by Beth Hayes, courtesy of the Preston Historical Society Photo: Beth Hayes

15. St George's Centre
Our last picture shows a view from the top floor of St George's Centre in Preston city centre. The photo must have been taken early in the morning as this area was usually bustling with hundreds of shoppers. During refurbishment in 1981 the open-air rotunda was covered and the shopping centre reopened in 1982
