Bearhunt will get Blackpool reading
How do you go on a bear hunt without leaving home?
Literacy campaigners in Blackpool have come up with a way of engaging youngsters in reading while having fun with their families during lockdown.
Get Blackpool Reading, the the campaign from the National Literacy Trust, Blackpool Opportunity Area and Blackpool Council, has developed an indoor literacy-based activity in response to school closures and to support families who are self-isolating.
It involves downloading a make-your-own Bear Hunt checklist, inspired by the popular picture book, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt .
Those taking part can download the fun and educational resource from the Get Blackpool Reading website and complete tasks which imitate the family’s journey through the book to find the bear.
Then, the children have to take a photo impersonating a bear and send it to the Get Blackpool email address, [email protected]
Families will then receive a token to swap fora copy of the book and a DVD, supplied by Walker Books.
These will be available from all eight libraries in Blackpool when they re-open.
There will also be a prize draw to find one lucky entrant, who will win a family ticket to Blackpool Zoo, redeemable until March 2021.
Get Blackpool Reading campaign manager Laura Flinn, said: “Engaging your child in stories and asking them to follow simple instructions are great ways to improve your child’s literacy skills while having fun at home. What’s more, there are some great prizes to be won!”
