Preston's pyramid is gone as work to open new garden centre and cafe gathers pace
What is happening?
Work is nearing completion on an extension to a city home and garden store.

Preston Council first gave permission for the work to The Range outlet in Queen Street Retail Park in January.
It has involved demolishing a glass pyramid structure inherited from former owners Homebase, to make way for a cafe.

What are the details?
The Range’s revamp is an extension totalling 961 square metres.
It involves a relocation of its garden centre facilities and an ancillary café.
A more conventional roof replacement offering “greater visual interest” will replace the pyramid.
What do they say?
A spokesman for The Range said: “I can confirm that we are currently working on an extension project in our Preston store.
“The extension will allow for the addition of a Dee Dee’s Family Café in the store serving a wide selection of delicious food and drink at affordable prices.
“A new garden centre will be added and the inside of the store will be getting a refreshed look and layout.”
The spokesman confirmed that work is “progressing well” but there is not yet a confirmed completion date.
They added: “We’re really excited to be bringing our Preston customers a bigger and better store with this extension”.
