And judging by the response, the new Fino Tapas venue has gone down well with both customers and staff.

Fino Tapas has moved from its usual base in St Wilfrid Street to the former Tiggis building across the city in Guildhall Street.

Business owner Mark O’Rourke took a temporary lease on the Guildhall Street premises so the business could operate more efficiently while social distancing is in force.

It was felt the St Wilfrid Street premises were too small to be viable while the coronavirus rules were still in force.

Mark had been inundated with people asking when the popular restaurant would be reopening at its usual base.

He looked around and has doubled the previous capacity operating out of the larger building that housed Tiggis for almost 30 years before it closed in 2017.

The venue had a soft launch last week and officially opened on Wednesday lunchtime.

Mark said he hoped that the new building would become the permanent base for Fino Tapas

He said: “We have done a complete refurb. It’s a nice building and there’s so much extra room. I’m hoping we can make it our permanent place.”

Fino Tapas said on Facebook: “Thank you so much to everyone who came to see us on our opening day and to everyone who visited for our soft launch.

“It was great to see our lovely customers, old and new, and hear your kind words about the brand new Fino Tapas.

“We’ve had a lot of interest and bookings so far, so booking a table is highly recommended.”

The venue is offering 25 per cent off food and drink for the rest of August.
