Christmas lights for Longridge

The Christmas lights will shine in Longridge tonight.

But due to the latest Covid-19 restrictions tonight's annual switch-on will be a socially distanced event which is being live streamed.

Spokeswoman Sandra Hart said: “The Light up Longridge event will be live streamed via You Tube. This is to help people be involved in the event from the safety of their own homes.”

Mayor Coun Steve Ashcroft will switch on the Town Council’s tree near the war memorial on Berry Lane at 6pm and local businesses and residents have been asked to switch on their decorations at the same time. The live streaming is due to start at 5.45pm.

Some of the businesses will be open for late night shopping.

A new Love Longridge YouTube channel has been created and the event can be seen there. Links to the channel will also appear on the Love Longridge Facebook page.

Businesses are also being asked to share photos of their lights on social media using #lightuplongridge
