A special Film and Music Season this month and next features eight events reflecting a wide variety of musical tastes.

The season kicks off tomorrow night with a screening of The Coen Brothers’ latest film Inside Llewyn Davis (15), following a folk singer struggling to get his big break in 1960s Greenwich Village. This screening is a Lancaster Arts City First Friday event and will be followed by free performances from Lancaster Folk Club in The Dukes bar.

A live-by-satellite question and answer session with Matt and Tom Berninger follows a screening of Mistaken For Strangers (15) on June 14. In 2010, rock band The National were about to embark on the biggest tour of their career and lead singer Matt invited along his brother and budding horror filmmaker Tom. He captured not only the band’s tour but also his own struggles living in his brother’s shadow.

American Interior (12A) on June 23 sees fiction, fantasy, myth and music collide in a playful documentary from Super Furry Animals front man Gruff Rhys.

This film follows Rhys as he plays a concert tour and retraces the steps of fabled Welsh explorer John Evans, who left his homeland in 1792 to search for a lost tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans. July sees more musical treats courtesy of The Four Seasons, Pulp, Frank Sidebottom and The Beatles.

Jersey Boys is the big screen version of the worldwide hit stage musical about 60s band The Four Seasons. Directed by Clint Eastwood, it will be screened from July 11-17.

Pulp is an inventive documentary following the iconic 90s band on their comeback tour in 2012 and is screened on July 11 and 12.

The weird and wonderful musical comedy film very loosely based on North West character Frank Sidebottom returns from June 1-5 and on July 21.

As an added attraction to Frank (15), Jon Ronson brings Frank Story to The Dukes on July 21. Jon was keyboard player with Frank Sidebottom for three years and his one-man show tells the true story behind the new fictionalised film which he co-wrote.

The Film and Music Season concludes with a digitally restored version of A Hard Day’s Night (U) on July 18 and 22 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles seminal film debut.
