Provincial Grand Lodge’s support for Rosemere
Members of the Provincial Grand Lodge of the Honorary Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons, a women’s friendship and service group, have donated £3,109 to Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
They presented the charity’s fundraising manager Sue Swire with the funds, which had been collected over a two-year period, at a special charity lunch at Morecambe’s The Lothersdale Hotel.

The venue was chosen for being a midway point between the six individual lodges that make up the Provincial Grand Lodge group. Of these, three are based on the Fylde, one in Carlisle and the final one, the Preston Guild Lodge, in Chorley, although they include members, who come from throughout the whole of Lancashire, Cumbria and the Manchester area.
It was the Preston Guild Lodge’s Angela Seed, a Past Provincial Grand Master, who nominated Rosemere Cancer Foundation to be the beneficiary of the Provincial Grand Lodge’s fundraising. Angela said: “My late husband Bob and my Provincial Grand Master predecessor were both treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre. A number of other members have been or are patients, making Rosemere Cancer Foundation a good charity to support.
“All of the individual lodges get behind fundraising for the chosen charity. We hold raffles and organise coffee mornings, spring fairs and such.”
The current Provincial Grand Master, the Right Worshipful Lindsay Knight, of the Carlisle lodge, who took on the role from Angela in June, is also supporting a cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now. Those attending the charity lunch raised £700 for Breast Cancer Now, which will be presented along with other monies raised in about 18 months’ time.
Sue Swire said: “Our thanks to all members of the Provincial Grand Lodge for this wonderful donation. It is so appreciated and will do so much good in terms of supporting local cancer patients on their treatment journey.”
Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria being treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre, which is the region’s specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, and also at another eight local hospital cancer units across the two counties.
Rosemere Cancer Foundation funds items beyond NHS means such as cutting edge equipment, clinical research, staff training and innovative services and therapies to make cancer patients’ treatment journey more effective, comfortable and stress-free.
