Half of Preston’s residents are under 36 as the city ranks among the UK’s most youthful
Preston's population is more than five years younger than the UK average, according to a new study of the country's most youthful cities.

With a growing university and a young workforce, Preston is home to more young people than many places of its size.
Dr Cinik Hair Clinic looked at 44 UK cities, scoring each one out of 100. They used ONS figures for three metrics: median age, the share of people aged 18 to 34, and births per 1,000 residents.
Preston finished 17th, scoring 56.77, which puts it among the most youthful cities in the UK.
Half of Preston's residents are younger than 35.3, the city's median age. Across the UK, the median age is 40.5.
The city also has a healthy number of young families. There were 10.83 births per 1,000 residents, the 12th-highest rate in the study and above the UK rate of 9.6.
Around one in four people in Preston (27.36%) are aged 18 to 34, compared with 21.8% nationally.
The UK's most youthful cities are:
Manchester
Nottingham
Cambridge
Oxford
Leicester
Bristol
