With colder weather upon on, Cosy Homes in Lancashire is encouraging residents to take steps to prepare their homes for winter and find out what help is available to stay warm, well and manage household energy costs.

The free WARM Matters event will take place at The Hollinshead Centre, Chorley United Reformed Church on Tuesday 10 November, from 11am to 3pm. Residents are welcome to drop in, enjoy a hot drink and a cup of soup, and chat face-to-face with a range of local organisations offering practical advice and support.

The event is particularly aimed at anyone concerned about keeping their home warm or worried about the cost of heating it this winter and visitors will be able to speak to representatives from a number of local organisations, including Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Age UK, SP Electricity North West, Chorley Family Hub, Citizens Advice Lancashire West and Chorley Council Select Move.

There are several tell-tale signs that a home may not be winter-ready, including condensation forming on the inside of windows, draughts coming through doors and windows, and radiators that remain cold at the top when the heating is on. For some households, the biggest concern is simply not knowing how they will afford to keep warm.

WARM Matters offers an opportunity to find out what practical help is available, from free energy advice to small measures that can make a real difference. These could include electric blankets, draught excluders and other support to help residents stay comfortable and reduce energy waste.

As an added incentive, everyone attending will automatically be entered into a free prize draw, with prizes including an air fryer, slow cooker, blankets and more.

Stacey Walker, Affordable Warmth Lead Generation Officer for Cosy Homes in Lancashire said: “Preparing for winter doesn't have to mean making big or expensive changes to your home. Sometimes, small measures and the right advice can make a real difference to how warm and comfortable you feel, as well as helping you manage your energy bills.

“We want residents to know that support is available and that they don't have to struggle through the colder months alone. WARM Matters is a friendly, informal opportunity to come along, enjoy a warm drink and find out what help is out there. Whether you're worried about the cost of heating your home, experiencing problems with damp or draughts, or simply want some advice before winter sets in, we'd love to see you.”
