Accrington nursery children pay their respects on Armistice Day

Children from Partou Little Oaks Day Nursery and Pre-school in Accrington proudly attended the town’s annual Armistice Day service at The Accrington Pals memorial on Church Street to lay poppy wreaths they made themselves.

Nicola Sledden, Partou Little Oaks Nursery Manager, said: “We spent time learning all about Remembrance Day as it is important for us, given the fact that we have children attending the nursery whose parents currently serve in the British Armed Forces.

She continued: “Whilst at the service, we participated in the two minutes silence and were excited to meet the Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Josh Allen.

“A local veteran also came over to talk to the children about his experiences in the Armed Forces.

“In a particularly special moment, he showed the children a photograph he carries with him every day of his comrades and a tank.”

Nicola added: “Our children were praised by the people present for their amazing manners, exemplary behaviour and the respect they demonstrated throughout the service.”

Located on Cannon Street, Partou Little Oaks provides high-quality childcare in the heart of Accrington.

Rated 'Good' by Ofsted, the setting includes a sheltered soft play area, front and back gardens, and a large sensory room with stimulating lights and colours designed for babies.

Samantha Rhodes, Partou Managing Director, said: “The children were fantastic ambassadors for the nursery.

“Making their own poppy wreaths was an appropriate demonstration of their respect for those who lost their lives in war.

“Their families should feel rightly proud of them participating in such an important and poignant civic event.”
