We have the second best defensive record in the league, behind Brackley Town, and I knew that if we started to take our chances more, then things would start to look up.

We bounced back really well from the home defeat to Boston United two weeks ago, picking up seven points from the following three matches and scoring five goals in the process.

Last weekend’s victory at AFC Telford United was a really fantastic result, particularly given what state the pitch was in.

The mud was ridiculous, especially in the corners, and I felt for the lads playing in those conditions.

But we knew if the match was called off we’d have had to play the game on a Thursday night, which no one wants. So ourselves and Telford agreed to play the match.

Alex Newby scored again after his fantastic goal at York a couple of weeks ago and he’s proving what a threat he is. He has got great feet and loves to run directly at the opposition and that’s exactly what you need at times.

Marcus Carver bagged the winner late on against Telford, and that’s great for him.

He’s in a rich vein of goalscoring form at the moment, and hopefully that will continue.

I’m singling out the two goalscorers from Saturday, but to a man everyone was brilliant.

Josh Wilson and Matty Hughes, who came off the bench in the final 20 minutes or so, were fantastic as well, causing problems to their defence.

I’ve always said it’s not just about the 11 who start a match, it’s the whole 20-plus squad who need to play their part and they are doing that at the moment.

It was never going to be an easy match at Telford, as they are fighting to stay in this division and beat Spennymoor a couple of days previously, so to win in the manner we did with two great goals was fantastic.

People are saying to me we’re hitting form at the right time and that may be the case.

We’ve got six monster matches remaining, and after the win at Telford reaching the play-offs is in our hands. We are not focusing on anyone else but ourselves and what we’ve got coming up and that is a difficult game on Tuesday night at Leamington followed by two huge home matches against Blyth Spartans and Stockport County – both sides who are fighting with us for the play-offs.

I’m confident in my side and what we are capable of.

Hopefully over the next three weeks or so, we will continue to show what we have over the past three matches, and claim our spot in the top seven.
