“What’s important now is that we kick on”: Morecambe boss challenges players to back up Bank Holiday wins
Morecambe look to make it three consecutive National League North wins on Saturday.
Adam Lakeland believes his Morecambe players will be all the better for their tough opening month to the National League North season.
The Shrimps went into the Bank Holiday weekend at the wrong end of the table after a draw on day one was followed by three straight defeats.
However, they welcome Buxton to the Halo Aerospace Stadium on Saturday after picking up three points against AFC Telford United and Chester.
Speaking after the win at Chester, Lakeland said: “That’s football, I’ve been in this game a long time.
“It doesn’t go in straight lines, there’s ups and downs.
“What I would say is I don’t think we’ll be in a weaker moment again this season as we’ve been throughout August; injuries, decisions going against us, no luck, having to roll out the same players minute after minute whilst not having the greatest of results and then off-field noise - which is not helpful.
“As a manager and a staff and as players, all you can do is focus on the things that you can control.
“That’s how we perform and we’ve stuck together. I’ve stood here after we’ve had some bad results and said that this experience early on will only make us stronger and will only make us more resilient.
“I think the last couple of games have shown that and what’s important now is that we kick on and that this feeling of winning becomes normality for us.”
Lakeland also praised a new-look Morecambe playing squad for their efforts so far and backed them to get better as the season progresses.
“They’re a top group of lads,” the manager added.
“I’ve only worked with them for a handful of months but they’re a really good, honest, group of lads.
“We’ve got a good team spirit, we’ve got lads who care, they want to do well.
“We’ve just had a difficult opening to the season but we will get there, I’ve said that all along.
“We’ve still got a lot of improving to do but if I’ve learned anything about these lads in the last few weeks, it’s that they absorb the information.
“They want to get better and because of that, I know that we will and we’ve got to keep going.”
