Yeovil Town 1 AFC Fylde 4: Thomas and Olley at the double

The Coasters got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion in Somerset on Saturday courtesy of a brace for both Luca Thomas and Greg Olley.

Craig Mahon named an unchanged side from last Saturday’s 2-2 home draw against Worthing.

There were chances for both sides in the opening 10 minutes, a Yeovil ball over the top requiring a headed clearance from Zac Jones outside his area

Mahon was forced in to his first change after just 24 minutes with Adam Lewis unable to continue after pulling up off the ball and was replaced by Millar Matthews-Lewis.

Olley broke the deadlock, latching on to Harvey Broad’s cross from the left and looping a shot over Alex Barker.

At the other end, Archie Davies’ powerful strike cannoned back off the post just before the end of the half, only inspiring the Coasters to double their lead before the interval through Thomas, who was played in behind by Matthews-Lewis to roll beyond Barker.

Jones ensured Fylde retained their lead five minutes in to the second period with a vital double save to deny the Glovers a way back in to the game.

Fylde were rejuvenated by the missed opportunity at the other end and extended their lead to three, courtesy of Thomas, grabbing his second goal of the game and second brace of the week.

Olley looked to follow suit and let fly from the edge of the area in search of a second for him and fourth for Fylde, though his strike from distance was held by Barker.

Yeovil did manage to pull one back fifteen minutes from time, frustrating Coasters’ keeper Jones, who seemed destined for a clean sheet, Luke McCormick slotting home to give the hosts a glimmer of hope.

Any Glovers’ hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed though as Olley doubled his tally and added a fourth for Fylde, rounding Barker before ensuring there would be no goalline clearance, flooring the last man back and placing home at the near post.

Five minutes were added at the end of the regulation 90 before the Coasters’ three points were confirmed by the referee’s final whistle.
