Shrimps set sights on triple whammy of wins when they face Notts County

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley is looking for his side to make it three wins from three when strugglers Notts County visit the Globe Arena on Saturday.

The Shrimps followed up their 2-1 win over Yeovil with a 1-0 victory at Forest Green on Saturday and Bentley is hoping for much of the same on Saturday when the managerless Magpies make the trip to Morecambe.

Bentley said: “Saturday was a great result and it was fantastic to follow up the win over Yeovil with another three points.

“The good thing about Saturday was that we picked up the win without being at our best. We were under pressure for a lot of the game but we showed a real resolve and determination and we picked up what many would say was a smash and grab win.

“I’ll take that all day long though because there have been so many games over the past couple of years where we haven’t got what we deserved so I think we were due a result like this.’’

Bentley is now looking ahead to Saturday but says no one should get too carried away with Notts County’s struggles so far this season.

The Shrimps’ boss said: “You just need to look at their squad to see that Notts County are a good side.

“They have experience all over the park and players up front who can hurt you. For one reason or another things haven’t worked for them yet this season but it is hard to think that they will struggle all season.”

Meanwhile, Morecambe forward Garry Thompson admitted he has a lot of people to thank after making his first start of the season against Sunderland last week.

The veteran had not figured for the Shrimps since rupturing his Achilles at Crewe Alexandra in April.

However, he has returned ahead of schedule and got 76 minutes under his belt against Sunderland.

“It’s great to be back and be back earlier than we probably thought,” he said.

“I think we were looking at December for me to come back so to be playing in early November has been great. It was fantastic to be starting again and it was a good test for me.”
