Attention will now turn to next season, with the 2020/21 campaign due to commence on the weekend of 12th September. Here's all you need to know about when Preston North End and their divisional rivals can sign new players this summer:

In the case of the sides still battling it out in the play-offs, new signings will not be eligible to take part.

When does the transfer window shut?

All summer business must be concluded by 17:00 on October 5th - a date which looks likely to also be observed by Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A.

Free agents can still be signed after this window closes, as long as they are not still attached to a club once it shuts.

Interestingly, a new rule is set to come into play, which will allow Premier League sides to sign players from their EFL clubs for a further two weeks, with this separate window operating closing at 17:00 on 16th October.

Championship clubs will also be able to sign players from other second tier sides and other EFL clubs during this time.

What about the January transfer window?

The winter window is expected to operate as normal, with clubs allowed to sign new players between 1st January and 31st January 2021.
