As reported this week, Preston North End are understood to be in talks over a new goalkeeper signing.
The Lilywhites moved Jack Walton on to Dundee United last month, one year after his arrival from Luton Town.
That has left a vacancy in the shot-stopping department and PNE are thought to be in positive discussions with an experienced head.
It does not mean Dai Cornell will be leaving the Lilywhites, though, with the Welshman expected to pen a 12 month extension and provide further cover.
But, the question now is who North End will bring through the door to provide added competition for number one, Daniel Iversen.
We’ve had a look around at who could suit Preston, and come up with the following list of candidates...

1. Joe Wildsmith
The 30-year-old is a free agent after leaving West Brom. Born in Sheffield, he has played 81 Championship games and 91 League One matches. The former England youth man has been on the books of West Brom, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday. When the Rams won promotion from League One in 2024, Wildsmith kept 20 clean sheets in 40 appearances. 2. Brad Collins
The 29-year-old is on the search for a new club after seeing his three-year spell at Coventry City conclude. However, Burton Albion are reportedly eyeing a permanent move for Collins after his 40-game loan stint there last season - regular game time could be the shot-stopper's priority, therefore. 3. Vaclav Hladky
The 35-year-old has spent the last two years in Lancashire and is now available on a free transfer after leaving relegated Burnley. He only played five games for the Clarets but prior to his Turf Moor stint, played all 46 games for Ipswich Town in their 2023/24 promotion season. 4. Alex McCarthy
If you are looking for experience then McCarthy has it in abundance, having started his senior career almost 20 years ago. He has played 152 games in the Premier League and just shy of that number in the EFL. McCarthy played all three play-off games when Southampton went back up to the top flight, two years ago. He has predominantly plied his trade down south though, so a move up north for a year or two may not appeal. | Ryan Pierse/Getty Images
