Preston North End allow £800,000 man to enter transfer talks with German club
Stefan Thordarson has registered 17 appearances in all competitions for PNE this season.
PNE have given Stefan Thordarson permission to speak to Hannover 96 over a potential January move.
The Lancashire Post understands the Lilywhites have allowed the midfielder to talk with the 2.Bundesliga outfit, who made an approach at the start of the month.
German interest in £800k PNE man
As first reported by German news outlet BILD, the 34-cap Iceland international is of interest to Die Rotten, who currently sit fifth in Germany’s second division.
The report, however, does also claim a swap deal could be on the cards for Hannover’s Franz Roggow, but the LEP understands there is no truth in those suggestions.
While Preston are expected to recruit this month, it’s not expected to hectic, with 12 new faces arriving through the doors at Deepdale in the summer. This means that freeing up funds could prove crucial in North End being able to conduct business of their own before the February 2 deadline.
Thordarson, who arrived for a reported £800,000 from Silkeborg in July 2024, may now well be one of those to depart this month having been given permission to speak with Christian Titz’s side.
Stefan Thordarson’s Deepdale struggles

The 27-year-old has struggled for consistent minutes in Lancashire this term, which has limited him to just 17 appearances in all competitions to date. The Iceland international has failed to score during that time, which has reaped just one assist so far.
Following the signing of Harrison Armstrong, along with the arrivals of Alfie Devine and fit-again Jordan Thompson in the summer, Thordarson has been restricted to cameo appearances from the bench in the first half of the season. This has seen the midfielder amass just six league starts in PNE’s opening 26 games this term.
Thordarson is entering the final 18 months of his current terms at Deepdale, which has seen him total 64 outings during his time at the club.
