North End begin their cup campaign with a first round tie against the Terriers in Yorkshire, 7:45pm, with Lowe expected to rotate his side.

He named an unchanged side for the second league game of the season on Saturday and it could be an opportunity for those limited to cameos to get their chance.

If they do come in though it will not be to just hand out minutes, instead Lowe will have full faith in the supporting cast turned stars.

“I won't do it for the sake of it, I'll only do it for the right reasons,” he said.

"If I feel there are one or two who are a little stiff from the last couple of games or who haven't played many minutes, and some that have only just come back into the fold.

"So I'll have a look at that - whoever steps in I'm quite content about how they'll go about their business otherwise they wouldn't be here.

"They're all chomping at the bit to get an opportunity.

"Jacob Slater has been waiting for an opportunity, I saw him against Charnock Richard and he was the best player on the pitch.

"Since then he's been up with the first team and he's been impressing more and more. The fact of the matter is, when you get those opportunities, whether you're a youngster or a senior pro, you have to take them.”

Youngsters summoned to Euxton from the academy base of Springfields are not guaranteed to stay there and they must impress week to week to remain.

“For this game, certainly, we'll have all our youngsters, Lewis Leigh, Dana Amaral, Mikey O'Neill and Jacob Slater will all definitely be on the bench for us on Tuesday night,” Lowe said.

"They've been fantastic in their attitude and application.

"It's good for me to get them involved and showcase what these cups are about and real men's football.”
