The five fan coaches making their way from Benidorm to Compoamor were delayed in setting off so missed the first few minutes of the match, but it made their entrance all the more spectacular.

With the pitch situated at the bottom of a hill, it was easy to see North End fans coming as they marched towards the game – though you did hear them before you saw them.

"What did it for me was that we were aware that they were coming and we were sitting down and I saw them all walking down the hill singing Preston North End - it was fantastic, it was like something out of a film.

"Moments like that is what it's all about, getting pictures with fans.

"I spoke to a few and they said thanks for uniting us together - if we ever want to be successful we can't do it alone, we need everyone on side.

"We're going to have bumps in the road and it's how you get over those bumps. When you have the fans travelling in their numbers and you've sold nearly 12,000 season tickets, it's unbelievable.

"We've got to do our bit now on the training pitch and on the pitch on a matchday to make sure we keep entertaining them, and I'm sure we will.”

North End lost out in the end, 2-1, but they gave as good as they got. There were a few tasty challenges and choice words in the 90.

“There were a few good tackles in there, I think they were diving around a bit too much I must say,” Lowe said.

"The linesman gave offside for Browney's goal and he was stood on the halfway line so I'm not sure how that was. It could have easily been 2-2 but I'm not making excuses, the result was irrelevant.

"I thought the lads were fantastic, it was 30 degrees out there when they were playing.

"When are Preston North End ever playing against Getafe again? They're special moments.”
