Transfer gossip: Scottish Premiership outfit eyeing January move for Preston North End favourite

Liam Lindsay has amassed 172 outings during two spells at Deepdale.

The January window is just under four weeks away from opening and it’s expected to be busy at Deepdale.

PNE currently occupy a play-off spot after an outstanding start to the campaign, which has seen them pick up 30 points from their opening 18 games.

The Lilywhites will be looking to strengthen in the upcoming market as they bid to maintain their top six chances.

But there could also be some departures in January, with reports emerging of a possible exit next month.

Liam Lindsay has been a prominent fixture in Paul Heckingbottom’s side this term, featuring 12 times in the opening four months of the campaign.

PNE man linked with January exit

SportsBoom have claimed the central defender is attracting interest north of the border as he heads into the final 18 months of his current deal.

The report claims the 30-year-old is on the radar of Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen, who are looking to bolster their defensive ranks in January.

It is believed the Dons are considering a swoop for Lindsay next month as they look to progress up the table after a mixed start to the season.

Jimmy Thelin’s men sit seventh in Scotland’s top flight, seven points above the relegation play-off zone.

The Scotland international has been a mainstay in Heckingbottom’s side this term and has started all of the Lilywhites previous six matches.

After a successful loan stint in 2021, the defender arrived at Deepdale on a permanent basis in August 2021, which has seen him amass a further 159 outings.

Liam Lindsay on Scotland squad

The centre-back is yet to earn a cap for Scotland despite being called up to the squad in 2024.

He said last month: ‘It's going to be tough, of course.

‘I was absolutely made up getting in the squad last year. Maybe a bit of luck. You never know what happens. Hopefully, I'll keep playing well and give Steve Clarke a headache.

‘I loved it (the experience of being called up to the squad). Just seeing what different calibre of players there are, training with different calibre of players, different manager. Just seeing it all, it was amazing.

‘Amazing. I was scared actually, but we dug in and the last ten minutes is what football's about, isn't it? Just great scenes, great for the country and buzzing for the World Cup now.’
