The 35-year-old Welshman was confirmed to have left PNE this summer by former manager Paul Heckingbottom, after four years at the club.

He made 23 competitive appearances for North End, including eight last season following an injury to Daniel Iversen.

In 2024, he was recognised as a PFA Community Champion and the PNE Community Player of the Year.

Cornell told the Leicester City website: “I'm delighted to sign and excited to be here. It’s a fantastic Football Club with a fantastic manager.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and helping in any way I can. Hopefully, together, as players, staff and fans, we can achieve what we want to achieve this season.”

Last month, Cornell took to his Instagram page to say goodbye to PNE.

He posted several photos of his time at the club with the caption: “Thank you, Preston North End.

“After four great years at this football club, the time has come for a new chapter.

“I'm incredibly grateful for the memories, the experiences and, most importantly, the people I've met along the way.

“It's been a privilege to represent this club and to be part of such a special group of players, staff and supporters.

“A huge thank you to everyone at PNE who has supported me throughout my time here.

“I'll always be grateful for the opportunity and will look back on my time at Preston with a lot of pride.

“I'm now looking forward to the next chapter.”

Cornell’s former clubs include Swansea City, Oldham Athletic, Northampton Town, Ipswich Town and Peterborough United.
