Davies sensationally signed for the Reds from PNE in February 2021, with six months left on his contract, but his time there now seems to be ending with a £4m move to Gers.

PNE are set to land some of that cash, as they have a 20 per cent sell on clause from when Davies signed his ‘long-term contract’ on the final day of the winter transfer window.

There were rumours that the North End academy product was on the verge of a move to Rangers’ great rival Celtic before Jurgen Klopp’s sided swooped in to snap him up.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, despite a defender injury crisis, he failed to make an apperance during his time at Anfield but a change of scenery could be exactly what he needs.

He spent last season out on loan with Sheffield United but was not always a key player at Bramall Lane and was again available for a move this summer.

Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough were said to be interested in signing him, with Stoke City and Burnley keen on a loan.

Instead it is a move north of the border and European football that awaits Davies at Ibrox.

He made 145 appearances for North End while he also racked up another 104 games on loan at York City, Tranmere Rovers, Southport, Newport County and Fleetwood Town.

Davies was nearly allowed to make a move earlier in his PNE career, to Fleetwood, but was kept at the club by Alex Neil.

After a successful loan at Highbury Simon Grayson was willing to let the left sided defender leave but a change of manager saw Neil come in and he took a liking to Davies, who never looked back.
