Brad Potts does not yet know where he will be playing for Preston North End this season

North End’s no.44 initially joined the club as a midfielder though has played in several positions in his time in PR1. He was first utilised out wide in Alex Neil’s 4-2-3-1, but also in the no.10 role behind the striker.

Under Frankie McAvoy he was often used a striker but since the arrival of Ryan Lowe he has played at right wing back.

That change of position, and appointment of Lowe, transformed the 27-year-old’s season, proving to be somewhat of a revelation in the latter part of the campaign.

That then begs a question, where will we see him play this season?

He told the Lancashire Post: "You'll have to ask the manager, I don't really know!

"I only really played wing back under him last season. I don't mind as long as I'm involved so we'll have to wait and see.

"To be honest with you I used to always want to play in midfield but it was alright last season, it was something different.

"It takes the pressure away from being right in the middle of things and I found at times that it was actually alright.

"So wherever the gaffer wants to play me, that's if he even wants to play me, I'll be happy to do a job for the team.

"It was a gamble for the manager playing there but I'd like to think that I did pay him back. He probably wants more from me but that's why we're here in pre-season, to learn and to get to grips with how he wants to play even more. I'll just be doing everything I can to be in his team.”

Potts and his teammates are preparing for their opening pre-season fixture of the summer, at Bamber Bridge on Saturday, 3pm.

It will be the first game there for PNE in three years, as least season’s was rained off an moved to Euxton, with Covid scuppering the two previous summers.

The game will come at the end of a week of hard week for Potts, as North End returned for the pre-season training on Monday.

He is looking forward to reconnecting with fans after the summer away, and an end to some of the running in training.

He said: “As soon as the games start you'd like to think that the running cools down, it best do anyways!

“They are testing you mentally in pre-season with the running. You know after the first week things will kind of calm down and more football will be played.

"It's good that we play local teams around this area, it helps them out as well. It can only be a good thing if you can interact with the fans as well.”
