Rovers cruised to a 3-0 victory, becoming the sixth side to win at Deepdale in the Championship this season.

The visitors were the better side throughout, Adam Armstrong giving them the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Joe Rafferty had been sent-off for bringing down Sam Gallagher.

Ben Brereton extended the lead eight minutes into the second half, with ex-PNE youth team skipper Tyrhys Dolan wrapping-up victory with the third goal.

Rovers manager Mowbray said: "I felt we were on the front foot and dominant from the beginning. With total respect to Preston, it was a game we came here to win.

"They have been struggling a bit at home this season and the game-plan was to be aggressive, play on the front foot, push them back and ask questions of them.

"They have had some amazing results away from home, but at home they’ve find it tough and we tried to capitalise on that and we did."

Rovers moved above North End in the table, with Alex Neil's men now facing two tough away games at Watford and Bournemouth in the space of four days.

Mowbray said: "We were reasonably comfortable from the start. It was about getting the goals and we managed to get them.

"The sending-off helped right on half-time. But it is no accident that people get sent-off, no coincidence, that three or four teams have had players sent-off against us because we have broken away and run through on goal.

"Sam Gallagher is a fast animal, a 6ft 4 fast footballer. The guy chasing him was really stretched and struggling, he lunged and brought him down.

"I don't think it was a contentious decision."
