Morecambe 0 Boreham Wood 3: Home campaign ends in defeat for Shrimps

The Shrimps’ final home game of the season saw them slump to their 25th defeat of the campaign with promotion-chasing Boreham Wood taking the spoils.

A first-half goal from Abdul Abdulmalik, followed by injury-time strikes from substitutes Joe Newton and Lewis Richardson, secured the points for the visitors against a much-changed Shrimps' line up.

Jim Bentley (right), in his final home game as manager, made five changes to the side that lost at Woking with recalls for Raheem Conte, Timmi Akindileni, Dan Ogwuru, Tommy Fogarty and Mo Sangare in place of Lewis Payne. Harlee Dean, Chris Popov, Kyle Jameson and Miguel Azeez.

The Shrimps started the game on the front foot with Jack Nolan going close in the opening seconds but from then the visitors, with former Shrimps' midfielder Tom White pulling the strings, dominated possession.

Erico Sousa and White fired efforts wide and Zak Brunt saw an effort hit the post before Abdulmalik opened the scoring in the 28th minute when he took advantage of a poor Raheem Conte clearance to place a shot beyond Jamal Blackman's left hand.

Brunt and Matt Rush then forced good saves from Blackman before Morecambe produced a rare threat when Conte forced Ted Curd into a low save.

The Shrimps produced the first chance of the second half when Ogwuru was presented with a good chance six yards out but the striker failed to find the target.

The visitors hit back with Blackman saving smartly from Matt Rush and Regan Booty, before Bentley brought on academy players Oscar Wright and Adam Fairclough for a taste of first-team action.

But as the Shrimps pushed for an equaliser they were undone by two late goals.

Newton produced a fine left-footed finish on 90 minutes and Richardson completed the scoring four minutes into added time with a superb finish from the edge of the area.
