Fans saw the good, the bad and the ugly from Chorley in gripping 3-3 draw at Chester

Magpies supporters witnessed a Jekyll and Hyde performance from their side in a gripping and dramatic contest at Chester on Saturday.

That is the view from boss Andy Preece who saw his Chorley side equalise on three occasions to force a 3-3 draw at the Deva Stadium in the NL North.

The visitors produced some scintillating moments in attack, their first two goals were of the very highest quality.

But at the other end, the Magpies were found wanting at times as they conceded three times.

In the end, it was a scruffy own goal which rescued a point for the visitors deep into stoppage time when home goalkeeper George Murray-Jones somehow punched the ball into his own net from a corner.

That was not the first own goal of the afternoon as Chester took the lead when a shot onto the post unfortunately ricocheted off Magpies No.1 Matty Urwin into the net.

Preece told ChorleyFC TV: “It was the good, the bad and the ugly – we were all of those today. The first two goals that we scored; the first one was a great ball by Mike Calveley and a great header by Ang Popoola.

"The second, again, great build-up play, Jack Moore has put an unbelievable, quality ball in and Calveley has got on the end of it.

The bad – some of the goals that we conceded; I am just disappointed with quite a bit of our play. People will say that you’ve come to Chester and come from behind three times, but I just expect more from us.

"Some of the individual 50/50 battles that we lost; the way that they were running at us; for us it was just not acceptable.

"The ugly parts of it is the first goal we conceded when it hits the post and comes back off Matty. Then our third equaliser, their goalkeeper punches it into his own net.”

The Magpies’ trip to AFC Telford United on Tuesday evening has been postponed with The Bucks set to face Hornchurch in the FA Trophy. They will now prepare for this weekend’s visit of Darlington to Victory Park.
