Midfielder Elliot Newby and striker Harry Cardwell have joined National League outfit Stockport County until the end of the season.

The Magpies have seen the 2020/21 campaign scrapped after club voted narrowly to declare this season null and void due to a dispute over funding in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chorley were keen to continue with this season and are currently looking into ways of continuing this season along with 17 other clubs.

However, with no games to look forward, boss Jamie Vermiglio has given his blessing for both Newby and Cardwell to play for County until the end of the season o or earlier, depending on whether a continuation of our 2020/21 campaign can be agreed.

Vermiglio said: "With the season now null and void it gives us the opportunity to allow some of our players to test themselves at a higher level, while maintaining our links with them going forward.

"Harry and Elliot have been excellent for us in 2020/21 and we wish them all the best during their spells with Stockport."
