The young star – who once sparred with legendary welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather and current middleweight ace Canelo Alvarez – is keen to beat the current English champion, which could pave the way for a shot at British title holder Tyrone Nurse.

Hughes has tasted defeat only once as a pro, coming early on in his career.

And Hughes retained his title last time out against Anthony Upton with a unanimous points decision win.

He said: “Joe Hughes has got a good record he has only been beaten once.

“He is a well respected fighter but I have no doubt I will come through.

“It is the first time I will headline a show, I have earned this privilege because of the fights before it.”
