“It will be as tough as it’s ever been”: Andy Preece’s message as Chorley visit struggling Spennymoor Town

Chorley boss anticipates a stern afternoon’s work for his players on Saturday.

Andy Preece has warned Chorley they cannot take victory for granted as they aim to continue their fine recent form this weekend.

The Magpies visit Spennymoor Town, the bottom club in National League North, looking for a fifth victory in seven league games.

They do so on the back of Tuesday’s 3-0 win at Radcliffe, which moved them into 11th position and was the ideal response after last weekend’s loss to Buxton.

In contrast, Spennymoor’s defeat against South Shields on Tuesday extended their winless league run to 11 matches.

Preece told club media; “They’ve been up and around us for a fair few years, in and around those play-offs and fighting like mad.

“It’s a tough place to go. I’ve got massive respect for them, they’re a very similar club to ourselves.

“We’ve always found it tough to go there and it will be as tough as it’s ever been, I think they’re having a little bit of a tough time at the minute.

“They’ll be massively up for it and we’ll have to be at our best if we’re going to get anything out of that game.”

Goals from Harvey Smith, Elliot Taylor and Sam Fielding gave the Magpies three points on Tuesday against a Radcliffe team which had won its last three beforehand.

Preece added: “I thought it was a really good performance.

“We had to defend really well because they’re a good footballing team, they’ve got players who have been playing very recently in the Football League.

“They’ve got quality, they’re very positive and you have to be very organised.

“It’s not easy coming here when they’re in such a great run of form, so we knew it was going to be a really difficult task but I thought the lads were fantastic and we thoroughly deserved the win.”
