The NatWest in Preston City Centre is hoping to get a swanky new ATM machine

The NatWest in Preston City Centre is seeking permission for an upgrade.

Last month, Preston City Council received an application seeking Listed Building Consent for “1no ATM replacement” at what is registered as the Royal Bank Of Scotland at 97 Fishergate.

The building has however of course been a NatWest since 2023.

Plan documents confirm that the concerned ATM machine is on the side elevation facing Fishergate and a replacement is required not because the old machine is broken, but rather to provide a better service for customers.

The planning agent Tate Stevenson Architects said: “The works have been requested by the client to replace the existing ATMs across England with new models that will have improved functionality, better DDA compliance and incorporate updated branded fascia surrounds where fitted.”

97 Fishergate itself is Grade II listed so the planning documents also stress the ways in which the proposal will cause as little disruption as possible to the building.

The agent added: “No other works are planned to the building other than replacing the 1no ATM. There are no planned works to any existing stonework, or any changes to the existing ATM aperture.”

The methodology for the removal of the existing ATM and the installation of the new one is outlined clearly.

Assurances are also given that the contractor will “fully prop all structural walls as required” and “protect all floors, walls, doors, architraves in the vicinity of the works until the new machines are in place”.

The contractor will even “provide an existing photographic record and notify the conservation architect and local authority if any of the existing fabric is accidentally damaged during the works.”

Regarding the design of the new ATM, the agent states that it was intended to be “sensitive and respectful to the character of the surroundings” whilst also “implementing the Banks requirement to improve its customer experience and brand”.
