Lara said: Brodie is safe and happy. He's a very good boy.

“I'll say to him that he made a dramatic entrance to the world but he completed our family perfectly.

“Everyone is shocked and finds it hard to believe but according to my friends I'm a superwoman so I'll take that compliment.”

We’re delighted that mum and baby are both doing well

A spokeperson for the hospital said the team has already been alerted of the incident and were waiting for the family when they arrived.

They said: “The team from triage were waiting for the family when they arrived.

“We’re delighted that mum and baby are both doing well.

“Although less common for a baby to be born outside of our maternity unit, our teams are always ready to respond quickly and provide support wherever it’s needed.

“The midwives were in close contact with the mother when labour progressed quickly and were waiting at the entrance to provide immediate care to the family on arrival at the maternity unit.”

They added: “Having a baby is a very special moment, even when it doesn’t quite go to plan and our teams are trained to provide flexible and personal maternity care whatever the circumstances in a calm, caring and professional manner.

“All of the teams would like to reiterate their congratulations to the family on their new arrival.”
