A man was caught by police hiding in the stockroom of a Lostock Hall dessert shop after breaking in through a window.
Liam Elmer, 28, smashed his way into Devine Desserts on Watkin Lane and damaged the till during the early hours of March 1.
Officers who were on routine patrol nearby noticed something was wrong and went to investigate, where they discovered Elmer hiding in the shop’s stockroom.
Elmer, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and later charged with burglary other than a dwelling and criminal damage.
He appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 3, where he pleaded guilty to the offences.
Elmer was jailed for eight weeks.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said officers had caught the “sticky-fingered thief” hiding in the stockroom.
They added: “Not the sweet ending he was hoping for.”
