Update: Major road still closed as fire crews remain at scene of derelict building blaze in Burnley
Firefighters are still at the scene of a derelict building blaze in Burnley this morning.
A large section of Briercliffe Road, from Duke Bar, close to Thursby Road and as far as Rylands Street, was closed off by police as four fire engines from Burnley and Nelson and the aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn raced to the scene at 3-45am.
The blaze broke out in the empty commercial building spanning around 15m by 10m.
The fire was on the second floor and firefighters used two hose reels, one jet, command support pack and a positive ventilation fan. No injuries have been reported.
Officers from Lancashire Police are in attendance to assist with a road closure in the area.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route as the road remains closed in both directions.
