University manager denies attempted murder of boy

A university manager accused of trying to murder a child is set to stand trial in July.

Quality and postgraduate manager Kerry Fenton, 43, appeared at Preston Crown Court to face charges of attempted murder after allegedly trying to suffocate the little boy in July of last year.

She is also accused of trying to strangle him in February.

Dressed in a grey sweater and teal trousers, Fenton, of St Michael’s Road, Kirkham, spoke only to confirm her name and enter pleas of not guilty to both charges.

Fenton, who works in the Management School at Lancaster University, has been on sick leave for a diagnosed illness and is currently on remand at HMP Styal.

Recorder of Preston Judge Anthony Russell QC remanded Fenton in custody and set a date for the trial to take place on July 2 at Preston Crown Court.
