A man in his 60s died in hospital after a car crashed into a bus stop in Burscough.

A Vauxhall Astra smashed into a bus stop in Liverpool Road South, Burscough, at around 9.35pm on Monday, January 2.

The driver, a 60-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he sadly later died.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

Detectives on Tuesday (January 3) urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Motorists who caught the collision on dashcam were also asked to contact the police to help them piece together exactly what happened.

Liverpool Road South was closed between Square Lane and Meadowbrook for a number of hours following the crash while an investigation took place.
