At around 11.30am, six police vans and two patrol cars descended on Thompson Street, off Miller Road in Ribbleton, to capture a 30-year-old man wanted on recall to prison.
More than a dozen officers were dispatched to the area where the man had been making threats to harm himself from a flat in Shakespeare Road, off Thompson Street.
A standoff ensued when he refused to leave the address and police taped off the road whilst officers sought to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
Lancashire Police said the man eventually gave himself up and left the home of his own accord.
He was arrested and the force said he was taken to hospital ‘as a precaution’.
