The M65 westbound was closed between junctions 5 and 6 due to a “police incident” at approximately 12.20am on Tuesday (August 16).
Officers urged motorists to find alternative routes when travelling in the area and thanked drivers for their patience.
In an update posted at 12.36am, police confirmed the carriageway had reopened following a “concern for welfare” incident.
“All resolved without incident,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police added.
