The land, bordered by Fylde Road, Greenbank Street and Aqueduct Street, already accommodates just short of 300 cars.

The university says it wants the site to be its main car park for more than 700 vehicles to help reduce traffic across the city centre campus.

Sited on a “main gateway” into the university (Fylde Road), it will replace many smaller car parks which have been swallowed up by development as part of UCLan’s £200m Campus Masterplan.

“One of the Masterplan’s visions is to relocate car parking from the centre to the edge of the campus to promote a healthier, more pedestrian-friendly campus,” says a report to the planning committee.

“The proposals for the Fylde Road site aim to locate a significant proportion of the available car parking spaces on a main gateway to the university, helping to reduce car travel across the campus.

“The Materplan envisages that the remaining area of the former Goss Graphics site will be redeveloped as a later phase of the university’s vision.”
