Where and when will the closure be in place?

The closure will be in place from Fishergate’s junction with Cheapside to its junction with Corporation Street and it will be in effect overnight from 8:00pm until 6:00am.

The prohibitions will only be operative when indicated on site by the presence of the appropriate traffic signs in accordance with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

Why is the closure in place?

The Lancashire County Council roadworks bulletin says that the closure is in place to allow for “the replacements of failing gully drainage iron works/defect repairs & excavation on damaged drainage pipe in the footpath.”

The work has been ordered by the county council, who added in their traffic notice: “The temporary prohibition is necessary to allow drainage works in the bus lane to be carried out.”

Are there any diversion routes in place?

An alternative route for vehicular traffic affected by the closure is via:- Glovers Court – Avenham Lane – Queen Street – London Road – Ring Way – Corporation Street – Fishergate.

Has the council said anything else about the disruption?

County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, Lancashire County Council, said: "These essential drainage repairs on Fishergate in Preston will address safety-critical defects in the drainage system and help keep this important route in good condition for everyone who uses it.

"To keep everyone safe while these repairs are carried out, Fishergate will be closed to traffic and signed diversion routes will be in place.

"While we appreciate this will cause some disruption, these repairs are important to help keep this route in good condition and reduce the risk of further issues in the future.

"We'd like to thank road users, residents and businesses for their patience and understanding while the work is carried out."
