Lancaster to get £570k of road upgrades as part of housing deal
A land developer is to contribute more than half a million pounds to road improvements in Lancaster after a 130-home estate was given the green light.

Lancaster City Council granted planning permission for the properties - off Powder House Lane, near Torrisholme - back in September.
However, the approval was conditional on an agreement being reached to secure payments of just under £4,400 per dwelling from applicant Wrenman Strategic Land Ltd., which had been demanded by Lancashire County Council.
That deal - known as a section 106 agreement - has now been completed.

According to a notice issued by the county authority, the total £570,000 contribution will go towards the following projects:
• City Centre Gyratory;
• A6 Slyne Road (and other feeder roads);
• local highway network around M6 Junction 34;
• Lancaster area- wide local road/management changes
• Morecambe area-wide local road/management changes
The planning permission also stipulated the creation of a so-called “active travel connection” for pedestrians and cyclists - to through to the B5321 from the south-west corner of the estate and bus stop enhancements on Lancaster Road.
The site is bound by residential development along Russell Drive to the west and Powder House Lane to the east, fields and Slyne Road to the north, and an existing pedestrian and cycle track which runs alongside the Bay Gateway to the west.
